Mr. Mitchell's Farm

Tyler and I were beyond lucky to have all the fresh organic produce we could possibly eat this summer.  Thanks to Tyler's high school ecology teacher and his magic soil.  We go grocery shopping in his garden each week and then jump off his dock into the Willamette river to cool off.  This really has been the best summer since moving to Oregon.  I'm in denial that I start school next Monday.

The man, the myth, the ledgend.  Tyler is ALWAYS ranking stuff.  The other day I heard Tyler refer to Mr. Mitchell as "One of his top 5 favorite people".  I'd agree with that... the guy is pretty awesome.

This is Mr. Mitchell's backyard.

chubby little toad.

Field of Dreams

Pick a pail of peppers.

All this loot from just one trip to the garden.

 Funky green beans.

Even funkier black tomatoes.

Tyler never stops smiling when he's in a kayak.

see?

Beets as big as yo head!

Always a teacher.  Although he is retired, he teaches us something new everytime we are there.

Biking home with a bike cart full of food through a hazelnut orchard.  I see your foot Riggy!

We support Mr. Mitchell when he puts on "Science, Music and Marshmallows".  The community comes out for a bonfire, good music and a lecture about something usually related to science or nature. Completely normal to see Mr. Mitchell holding something as obscure as an elk skull. The guy chuck full of knowledge.

And here's a funny video of Riggs from a day on Mr. Mitchell's dock...

  1. You should submit the photo of all the loot to a recipe or gardening magazine. There actually is a site that you can submit photo's and you'll get paid if they're used. Don't know anything about it, but the site uses my friend's photos. I think Rigg's was genuinely scared that his daddy got hurt. But in true Riggin's form, he ends with a smile.
